Royal Enfield to recollect lakhs of bikes over ignition coil defect

Royal Enfield on Wednesday said it reviews near 2,36,966 motorcycles of the Classic, Bullet, and Meteor models because of imperfection in the ignition coil, normally utilized in these models.


"Royal Enfield has found a deformity in one of the parts utilized across a portion of the motor models that we produce and sell. The imperfection is in the ignition coil that can cause fizzling, diminished vehicle execution, and in uncommon cases, an electric short circuit," the company said in an explanation.


As per the company, the particular deformity was found during routine interior testing and the issue has been recognized. Royal Enfield has guaranteed that the imperfection has been segregated to explicit bunches of material sourced from their outside provider between December 2020 and April 2021.


To fix the issue and as a prudent step, the organization has declared that it will attempt a proactive, company started a recall of select bikes models created in the previously mentioned time span. The review will be relevant to Meteor, Classic, and Bullet cruiser models sold in India, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia, it further added. 


Meteor bikes produced and sold between December 2020 and April 2021, and the Classic and Bullet bicycles manufactured and sold between January and April 2021, will be reviewed.

In the year finished March 2021, Royal Enfield sold 6.12 lakh bikes, down 12% from a year prior. Of these fares represented 38,622 units, down 2%.
